About the Beginners Classes The next chance to enroll will be :
THURSDAY EVENING
DURING JANUARY 17th, 24th & 31st
2008 The beginners classes run for approximately a year to two years at a time on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm, at which point the members graduate to the next intermediate class from 7pm to 8pm. When attaining the brown belt (See information section for description of belts grading), some members will be invited on merits to train for an extra hour until 9pm. What to Wear Clothing should not cause restriction when training and particularly should not extend past the ankles or wrists so that fingers and toes are not caught up in them, which may obviously result in injury. Jewellery must never be worn as it may be broken or again may cause injury. Finger and Toe nails should be kept short so as not to cause injury to the practitioner or their opponent. The training uniform you will see people wearing is called a ‘Gi’ and the belt is known as an ‘Obi’. Belt colours change with experience and on completion of a grading test which will typically take place every three to four months with regular training and practice. Etiquette Students are requested to observe the following rules of etiquette: - · Members should bow at the door when entering or leaving the dojo (literally 'Way Place' or the training hall). This is to show respect to yourself and to your training partners. · All members should bow to their training partner before and after one to one training or sparring. · If you are late to a session, you should bow to come in and then kneel by the door where you can be seen, and then enter the dojo properly when your arrival has been acknowledged by the instructor.
