About the
Grades and Gradings
On passing the
first grading at the club you will progress to the first belt which is
either orange or orange and white depending on your age. Belts then
progress through the following levels until after a minimum of three
years dedicated training with correct attitude you can progress to black
belt (which is known as 'first Dan').
All gradings contain the '3 K's': -
-
Kihon - Basics, movements that make
up the basic techniques of karate
-
Kata - A
collection of various movements combined together performed alone
that takes around a minute to complete
-
Kumite -
Paired sparring
The belts progress in the following
colours, follow the link to view the syllabus
The Dan grades
then progress from there up to 10th which takes about 60
years to achieve!
Practice
in own time is essential to become a good practitioner and to reach the
brown belt levels and beyond.
