Competition success and Awards Although the Martial Art ‘way’ is not specifically materialistic, we are all human and recognition and encouragement is important. The photograph below shows two of our younger Karate-ka with their recently awarded trophy’s. Kiri Wells holds the ‘Spirit’ trophy whilst Aurora Hjelmberjg display’s her ‘Progress’ shield. These awards are made at each grading and are for effort and conduct (good spirit) and progress during our regular training times. They are awarded irrespective of age or level. The first two recipients of these new awards were Charlie Bailey (Progress) and Dewi Pilsworth (Spirit).
About once every 3 to 5 years our association, the International Association of Shotokan Karate (IASK) holds a training course followed by a competition. The training course is very special as it is conducted by the Chairman and Chief instructor, Mr Nicholas Adamou 8th Dan. This year, he instructed over 130 of us for 2 hours in a single class! This was followed by an association competition in which we were awarded 6 trophies out of a possible 18. The photograph shows;
Bill Clark (1st Kyu) 3rd place Senior Kumite John Clark (2nd Kyu) 1st place 12-15 age group Kata and 3rd place Kumite Chris Schmorleiz (2nd Kyu) 2nd place 12-15 age group Kata Dewi Pilsworth (3rd Kyu) 2nd place 12-15 age group Kata Jeff Rand (2nd Dan) 3rd place Senior Kata This was a fantastic achievement!
